Protection from HMRC Investigation

HMRC enquiries are better targeted and are being undertaken with an unprecedented level of detail and persistence. In 2018/19, the total tax revenue increased by £22bn to £627.9bn with compliance activity yielding £34.1bn – a 12.5% increase in additional tax on 2017/18.

The cost of defending yourself professionally is potentially huge; enquiries are taking longer and the defence costs are increasing. Even when the outcome of the enquiry results in no adjustments to your tax position, the cost of the defence can be just as costly.

Covid-19 Job retention or SEISS enquiry cover

In the fullness of time, the Government may want to review claims made and grants paid under the COVID-19 Business support schemes. If an enquiry into an approved COVID-19 Job Retention Scheme grant or Self Employed Income Support Scheme payment is carried out by HMRC, using their Information & Inspection Powers contained with Schedule 36 FA 2008, then our Tax Investigations Service would provide for this under the Schedule 36 enquiry provision; subject to usual Terms and Conditions.
